Brondell Swash 1400 Review

Brondell bidet seats have improved with the release of each new generation model.  The Brondell Swash 1400 is Brondell’s 3rd generation bidet toilet seat, supplanting the previous generation Swash 800 and Swash 1000 series.  The all new Swash 1400 carries over all the improvements made on the Swash 1000, but offers several more enhancements.

With a streamlined design and twin, stainless steel nozzles – the Brondell Swash 1400 blends great aesthetics with outstanding cleansing performance.  It’s sure to add a modern look to your bathroom, while providing a comfortable and more hygienic cleansing experience.

 

 

Design

This Brondell Swash 1400 review features a bidet seat with a rather modern and contemporary look.  You’ll see beveled edges going around the contour of the lid, which provide a streamlined appearance.  As it sits on your toilet, there’s a gentle slope from back to front – as the unit measures 5.5” at its tallest point in the rear, moving to 1.2” at the very front.

Towards the rear of the unit you’ll find a blue Brondell logo centered in the middle.  At the very back, there is a black sensor, which is the bidet’s primary remote control signal receiver (there are actually two more receivers; one on each side as well).  Below the sensor there are three LED indicator lights:  (1) Power (2) Eco Mode and (3) Seat Temp.  The power light will always be on provided you have your unit plugged in.  The Eco Mode light lets you know, well…  whether or not the seat is in Eco Mode!  The Seat Temp light lets you know if the heated seat has been activated.  This gives you an idea of the seat’s temperature, before you sit down.

A big change to the design of the Brondell Swash 1400, was moving the electric cord to the LEFT side of the unit.  Now, the electric cord AND water hose extend from the same side of the unit, which lets you clip the cordage together (hose clips are included).  Combined with the new hidden pocket design, the cordage definitely looks more discreet than with previous models.  The Swash 1400 is the only seat from Brondell that has the electric cord coming out of the left.  Most other bidet seats have the electric cord extending from the other side, on the right.  The electric cord on this model measures 42” long.

On the RIGHT side (the right side if you’re facing the toilet), there are a few buttons towards the rear:  (1) Power (2) Rear Cleansing and (3) Nozzle Cleaning.  The Power button turns the bidet on and off.  The rear cleansing button lets you activate the posterior wash without the remote control.  And the Nozzle Cleaning button extends the nozzles, one at a time, in case you want to manually clean them with a brush.  There is a small black oval on this side, which is one of the backup remote control sensor receivers.  Also on this side, are vents for the active carbon air deodorizer.

We measured the elongated size version of this bidet seat to be 19.8” long, while the round size version measured 18.4” long.  We note in this Brondell Swash 1400 review, that our measurements differ from what’s stated in the manufacturer specs, which state 20.8 inches and 19.4 inches, respectively.  We find the manufacturer spec measurements to be incorrect, which probably occurred while converting millimeters to inches.  Both the elongated and round size units are equally wide at 14.6” at its widest point, so the only difference between the two sizes is the length.  The elongated unit weighs 14.3 pounds, while the round unit weighs 13.2 pounds.

Wireless Remote Control

The bidet is operated thru the use of a wireless remote control.  The remote comes with a cradle, which you can mount on your wall.  Double-sided tape is affixed to the back of the cradle so you can easily stick it on your wall.  Or, a couple screws are also included if you prefer.  The remote control is powered by four CR2032 batteries, which look like watch batteries.  A complete set of batteries is included with your shipment so you can use the remote right out of the box.  A set of fresh batteries will power the remote for approximately two years.

We point out in this Brondell Swash 1400 review, that the remote cradle for the Swash 1400 is the best-designed cradle we’ve seen.  The remote docks magnetically, so as soon as you hold the remote near the cradle, you’ll feel the magnets start to engage to bring the remote in.  This compares to other manufacturers, whose cradles hold the remote with a physical clip.  The “clip-design” found on other remote cradles make it harder to take the remote out.  Plus, clips can break.  But the magnetic design found on the Swash 1400 cradle is excellent, and you know the magnets will work forever.

If you’re familiar with the previous generation Swash 1000, the new remote for the Swash 1400 will look familiar to you.  The remote is shaped like a TV remote so it fits in one hand easily, measuring 5.8 inches tall by 1.8” wide by 0.6” thick.  The most commonly used buttons such as wash, stop, move (oscillate) and dry are all found at the top of the remote.  In the middle of the remote you’ll find the adjustment controls, so you can adjust things like nozzle position, water temperature, water pressure and spray width.

Three new buttons have been added to the bottom of the remote: (1) Auto (2) User 1 and (3) User 2.  Press and RELEASE the “Auto” button to start a 90 second oscillating REAR wash, followed by a 2 minute warm air dry.  Press and HOLD the “Auto” button for 5 seconds, to start a 90 second oscillating FEMININE wash, followed by a 2 minute warm air dry.  Both of the “Auto” washes are set with high water pressure, medium water temperature, medium spray width, and medium air dry temperature.

The new “User 1” and “User 2“ buttons are used to activate pre-programed washes for up to two people in your household.  These user presets are very similar in concept to some high-end luxury cars, where you can pre-program the position of the driver’s seat, steering wheel and mirrors.  But in the case of the Swash 1400, you’ll be pre-programing settings for nozzle position, water temperature, water pressure, spray width and the oscillation mode instead.

Bidet Functions

This Brondell Swash 1400 review features a bidet seat which is powered by twin, stainless steel nozzles.  One of the nozzles is dedicated for feminine wash, while the other nozzle is dedicated for posterior wash.  Brondell received customer feedback, that the feminine nozzle on the Swash 1000 was a bit short for women, and didn’t reach forward enough.  So they re-designed the feminine nozzle on the Swash 1400, making it a bit longer, and it now provides better forward reach for women.

Users will find a high degree of adjustability and customization in this bidet toilet seat.  For example - you can adjust the wash nozzle to one of seven different positions, ensuring optimum spray coverage.  You can adjust the water pressure as well.  Even things like the width of the spray can be changed.  You can change the spray-width from a narrow, concentrated spray to a wider, softer spray. 

Water pressure can be adjusted over three different settings (low, medium, high), and the spray-width can be adjusted over three different settings as well (narrow, wide, widest).  This results in nine different combinations (3 x 3) of water pressure and spray-width settings available to you.  For example – you can have low water pressure combined with narrow spray-width.  Or you can have medium water pressure combined the widest spray-width, or any of the seven other combinations.  This high degree of customization really lets you dial in the wash, precisely to your preferences.

Because the Brondell Swash 1400 has a built-in water heater – the only water supply the seat needs, is the cold-water connection behind your toilet.  Water temperature can be adjusted over four available temperatures:  room temperature, low (90 degrees Fahrenheit), medium (95 degrees Fahrenheit) and high (100 degrees Fahrenheit).  The innovative on-demand water heater is highly efficient, and turns on only while the bidet is in use.  Because of this on-demand instant heating technology, the bidet doesn’t need to regulate water temperature all day – resulting in exceptional energy efficiency.

Another wash feature to note in this Brondell Swash 1400 review, is the nozzle oscillation mode.  Pressing the “Move” button on the remote control will activate the nozzle oscillation.  Once activated, the nozzle starts to extend/retract back and forth, extending the cleaning area.

The bidet’s self-rinsing feature, rinses the nozzles with water before AND after each use.  This results in the nozzles being cleaned TWICE every time the bidet is used.  This self-rinsing feature works extraordinarily well, and there’s virtually no need for additional cleaning.  If you want to take this cleaning a step further, the Brondell Swash 1400 also has a separate nozzle sterilization feature.  Utilizing silver nano-technology as a natural anti-bacterial agent, the bidet sterilizes your nozzles by simply pressing the “Sterilize” button on the remote control.

Additional Features

Other features to mention in the Brondell Swash 1400 review include a heated toilet seat, with three levels of temperature (low, medium, high).  You can of course turn the heated seat feature off as well, for a room temperature seat if you prefer.  Both the lid and seat are slow-closing, so they don’t slam shut.  Additionally – the lid of the Brondell Swash 1400 has a lid which is sturdy enough for you to sit on.  Most other bidet toilet seats have a very thin lid which acts more like a cover, and you can only sit on the seat.  But the Swash 1400 has a nice, thick lid which can support your weight too.

A built-in warm air dryer will help dry residual moisture after your wash.  The bidet also features a built-in active carbon air deodorizer.  An improvement designed into the Swash 1400 is that now, the carbon air deodorizer cartridges are replaceable.  So you can swap out your spent cartridge with a new one to keep things fresh.  There is also an Eco mode which decreases the unit’s energy consumption when not in use.
