Kohler Novita BH90, BH93 Review
Kohler is already pretty well known in the United States with their bathroom fixtures and their line of Kohler Novita bidet seats are making a splash as well. The Kohler Novita BH90, BH93 is their flagship offering. With an eye-pleasing design, this bidet seat offers some advanced features such as an automatic open/close seat and lid and an advanced night light feature.

Design
This premium Kohler Novita bidet seat is available in both elongated (BH90) and round (BH93) sizes. We'll just refer to the seat as the Kohler Novita BH90 for purposes of our review.
This Kohler Novita BH90 review features a high-end looking bidet toilet seat. The stainless steel inlay going across the rear of the unit makes the unit look rather sharp and smart looking. A little stainless steel trim on any appliance gives an upgraded look really. Similar to how refrigerators these days have mostly moved to stainless steel too.
Also towards the rear of the unit, you'll find the LED window which houses four indicator lights. The first light is the power light, the second light tells you if the automatic air deodorizer is on, and the third and fourth lights are for the two different energy saving modes. The LED window also contains a body sensor to detect when you're approaching the toilet. This body sensor activates the bidet's automatic open/close seat and lid (more on this later).
If you're facing the bidet as if it was installed on your toilet, the electric cord for the Kohler Novita BH90 extends from the right hand side and measures 40 inches long. It's a standard three-prong U.S. plug, with two flat pins up top and the round grounding pin at the bottom. Also on this side of the seat, you'll find a mini control panel which you can use to operate the bidet without the remote control. Buttons are available to activate posterior wash, feminine wash, the deodorizer, and to access the different energy saving modes. A quick release button is located just behind the mini control panel, which unlatches the bidet from it's mounting bracket.
The only thing on the opposite side of the seat (the left side if you're facing the toilet) is the water inlet where you connect the water supply hose.
The body of the Kohler Novita BH90 is 16.0 inches wide at its widest point towards the rear of the unit. The elongated size (BH90) model is 21.4 inches long, and the round size (BH93) model is 19.8 inches long. The bidet is 5.7 inches tall at its tallest point in the rear. The Kohler Novita BH90 weighs 9.6 pounds.
Wireless Remote Control
Like most high-end seats, the Kohler Novita BH90 is operated with a wireless remote control. A wall mounting kit does come included, so you can mount the remote on your bathroom wall. You can operate the bidet directly from the wall. Alternatively - the remote easily slides out of the mounting bracket so you can hold it in your hand.
The remote is shaped like a rectangle, measuring 7.0 inches wide and 2.6 inches tall. We note in this Kohler Novita BH90 review, that it's the only bidet seat which comes with a backlit LCD display on the remote. This means you can actually see the LCD display in a dark bathroom since the screen lights up for you. The LCD shows which functions are being used, and at which setting. For example - if you adjust the water temperature up or down, the LCD will indicate if it's at the high, medium or low temperature.
The remote is pretty easy to use. You'll find all the buttons to activate bidet features on the left side of the remote, and all the adjustment controls (e.g., water temperature) on the right side. The buttons are labeled with both words and pictures - so it's pretty intuitive to figure it out.
The remote is powered by three AA batteries which come included. A fresh set of batteries will last about a year, so it is quite efficient on battery usage.
Bidet Functions
The Kohler Novita BH90 is powered by an advanced "nozzle-in-nozzle" design which means, the feminine nozzle is actually housed inside the stainless steel posterior nozzle. When feminine wash is activated, the feminine nozzle extends out of the posterior nozzle and starts spraying. This "nozzle-in-nozzle" design has two primary benefits: (1) the feminine nozzle is never exposed during posterior wash and (2) the feminine nozzle extends further forward providing better reach for women.
Nozzle position can be adjusted with both posterior and feminine wash functions. You can increase/decrease water pressure and you can also adjust the water temerature over five settings - ranging from room temperature, very low (88 degrees fahrenheit), low (92 degrees), medium (98 degrees) and high (104 degrees). The Kohler Novita BH90 uses instant (tankless) water heating technology to control water temperature. This contrasts to other bidets which use a reservoir (tank-type) heater which only holds a finite amount of warm water.
Other wash features to note in the Kohler Novita bidet review include an oscillation feature which moves the nozzle back and forth while washing - extending the cleaning area. The bidet also has a Turbo Cleanse mode - with a single touch of a button you can activate a high pressure posterior wash which includes oscillation.Â
The automatic open/close seat is a high-end feature we think most of you will enjoy. Let us preface by saying this feature can be disabled if you prefer. As mentioned previously - the Kohler Novita BH90 is equipped with a body sensor which detects when you're approaching the toilet. When triggered, the body sensor will automatically open the lid for you. Men who want to raise the seat as well, can do so by tapping a button on top of the remote control. Both the seat and lid will close automatically 2 minutes after walking away.Â
And finally - let's talk about the built-in night light on this seat. This is hands-down the best implementation of a night light we've ever seen on a bidet seat. On other seats, the night light is built into the side of the unit so it shines sideways. But with the Kohler Novita BH90, they are directed forward towards the user and illuminate the entire toilet bowl. Moreover - the night light is automatic so you don't need to manually turn it on/off. The bidet is equipped with a light sensor which detects ambient light in your bathroom. When there's light in your bathroom, the night light stays off. When there's no light, the night light turns on. And since the night light is powered by LED, the electricity draw is virtually nil. Just a brilliant design.
Additional Features
Other features to mention in this Kohler Novita BH90 bidet review is the a warm air dry to help dry you off after washing. There is also the heated toilet seat feature. Nobody likes sitting on a freezing toilet seat but with the BH90 you'll have a nice warmed seat to sit on. Just like the air dryer, seat temperature can be adjusted over five different settings. The self-cleaning feature on this unit rinses the wash nozzles with water before and after each use. The bidet seat is equipped with an automatic air deodorizer which helps eliminate bathroom odor. And as discussed previously, there are two different energy saving modes on the BH90 which will help minimize energy consumption.
